Shiu Pong College Students Attempt to Produce Short Film within 30 Hours

Shiu Pong College organized a special short film production camp on April 21-23, with participating students learning film production skills and finishing a short film within 30 hours.

Mr. Wong Ming Kin, who produced a well-known short film “I-World”, was invited to be the trainer of this camp. Being a Macanese, he is one of the first-generation filmmakers of internet short film in Macau and Hong Kong. A total of 15 students, mainly members of Short Film Production Workshop of Shiu Pong College, were divided into three groups in this 2-day experiential learning camp.

Mr. Wong first shared his experience and introduced his film style in accordance with his works, and then explained important skills about script writing and video taking. He requested each group to finish a short film within 30 hours, including script writing, video taking and editing. “It is not easy.” Mr. Wong said that the shortest production period he had ever experienced was 48 hours.

However, students accepted this challenge with their great effort. Each group submitted a short film on time. Three films had different features. “Coffinfish” expressed how to face failure; “Piece of Paper” showed a romantic story in university; “Today Once More” was a science fiction film about computer game addiction. Prof. Leung, the Master of Shiu Pong College, Ms. Leung, Mr. Wong and participants watched these short films together followed by a collective discussion, then Mr. Wong gave comments one by one. He said that these works had the foundational quality to attend competition and encouraged students to develop themselves continuously.

Students thought that they learned so much in this camp although they were also very tired. “I did not experience this before, and I will never forget it.”
