SPC English Camp Helps Students Establish Life “Cornerstone”
“English Camp helped me become a better person,” “well organized and designed”, “fun games and meaningful workshops,” “became more confident in speaking English,” “tutors were caring,” “tutors chatted with me patiently despite my poor English.” These are some of the feedbacks from students participated in the 3rd English Camp, themed as “Cornerstone”, participated by more than 30 students, of Shiu Pong College (SPC) held on May 20th to 22th at the College campus. 100% of the survey feedback received rated the camp as very interesting and will recommend the camp to their friends.
The camp was organized by 14 volunteer tutors from Hong Kong, invited by SPC Master, Prof. Leung. The tutors were all professionals, including scientist, medical doctor, lawyer, professor and architect, who had prior experience of living in English speaking countries.
Through fun games, thought provoking workshops and tutors’ life stories sharing, students were enabled to build confidence in speaking English as well as to explore and reflect on the meaning of life and whole person development in order to bring out the “learn to appreciate”, “live with gratitude,” and “you are the light of the world (the motto of SPC)” —-cornerstone messages of the camp.
Some of the students’ favorite activities included team building games, crisis management workshop, and Macau Cultural Excursion. Students were inspired and encouraged to communicate, discuss, and share ideas in English under supportive and encouraging atmosphere.
The diverse cultural backgrounds of students and tutors brought along opportunities of friendship building through cultural engagement. ALL participating students said they look forward to the next English camp.
